Cheapest Cell Phone Plan (2020)
The cheapest cell phone plan that includes unlimited data. I looked at every plan and let me show you why I went with Visible and why I think it’s time to get away from the big companies like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
I used to have Verizon and was on a Gigabyte (GB) type plan. Where you buy a certain amount of GB’s for the month and that’s what you have for data. I’d usually ended up running out of GB’s every month which was really annoying and inconvenient. But to move to unlimited data it was just too expensive. So that’s when I started to look elsewhere. I looked at all the mainstream brands, prepaid lines, and new companies.
That is when I discovered Visible, which has been amazing for me. I am NOT getting paid by Visible to write this article, and this is not by any means an advertisement for them. I legitimately just want you guys to save money on your phone bill every month and not have to do the extensive research I did. If you decide you want to sign up with Visible you can click the link here to join my party pay plan (Once you click the link hit “Request to Join Squad Up”). You could get unlimited talk, text, high speed data, and mobile hotspot data for as low as $25/month. I’ll cover how that’s possible in more detail at the end of this article.
First, let’s look at the name brand companies. I’ve included taxes and fees for their cheapest unlimited data, single line plans:

After I did a bunch of research on all these companies the price was still just too high. Even with discounts like family plans, military, student, first responder, they still came out higher than I wanted to pay. That’s when I started doing research on smaller phone companies. These are typically Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO)’s or prepaid services and they are usually owned by either Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile.
The reason these companies are so much less is they don’t have the costs of store fronts like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile do. These companies are run all online. Even their customer service is usually done with a live chat. I was skeptical of this at first, not really being able to talk to a person directly. But so far, it’s never been an issue. Since having the service I think I have reached out to the live chat help 3 times to ask a question and they were able to help me every time. But I will say you do sacrifice a feeling of security in being able to get direct help from a person. However, in this day and age, online companies are so advanced it’s something I believe is the future and I’m willing to be a part of to pay less on my phone bill.
The second main concern I had was the coverage was going to be terrible, that’s why these plans are so cheap! I was wrong. I have to say after having Visible for almost a year now I have been extremely impressed with the coverage. Visible is owned and operated by Verizon and they actually use Verizon’s unused network space for coverage. This is the other big reason why these plans can be so cheap. These companies don’t have to build entire networks across the country, they essentially rent out the left-over space from Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. In theory you get the exact same coverage a Verizon customer would receive but for half the price! I think in the past year I’ve only had bad service twice where the people I was with had service. Both times it was in a very rural area. Those times I turned my phone on/off airplane mode to reset the service and each time the service came back on.
Reasons I chose Visible out of all the options
#1 It has good reviews compared to its competitors. The coverage seems to be the most expansive out of any other company in its price range. This is because it uses Verizon’s network, which to date has the largest amount of cell coverage in the United States. I see it as I get to use Verizon’s network at half the cost!
#2 $40/month includes no fees and no taxes. They legitimately only charge you $40/month, nothing extra. The bigger companies typically charge 15% or more in fees and taxes on top of their advertised price!
#3 Visible is always giving awesome deals. If you switch to Visible usually you get $100 prepaid Visa card and your first month at $20. So, you basically get your first 3 months free. Anytime you buy a phone through Visible usually they give you bonus; like free headphones or $100-$200 prepaid visa gift cards.
#4 Simplicity of Visible. It offers 1 plan and there’s no contracts, so you can leave at any time. In that plan everything is unlimited. And the plan even includes mobile hotspot data. Whereas a lot of MVNO competitors will offer unlimited talk/text/data but no hotspot data. I don’t use a hotspot often but they’re times where I connect my laptop to my phones data in order to access the internet on my laptop. I can do this with Visible at no extra costs.
#5 Your plan could be even lower than $40/month. They have what’s called “Party Pay”. It’s similar to a “Family Plan” but better. Here are the costs:
Unlike a Verizon or AT&T family plan, with party pay everyone is responsible for their own plan. If someone does not pay their $25/month they just get dropped out of the party. It doesn’t reflect negatively on you. And you don’t even need to know who’s in your party. On your plan it will show you’re in a party but the only thing you see of other person’s first name and last 4 digits of their phone number. You don’t even see the person’s full name or phone number and definitely no personal information of anyone else in your party.
So, with Visible you can get Verizon coverage, unlimited talk, text, & data, and mobile hotspot data, all for $25/month with no fees, no taxes and no contract. You’re not going to beat that price on any other phone service in the country. That’s why I went with Visible.
